Ever watch someone create a pot on a potter's wheel? Many say it's like magic fascinating even for the most experienced potters. Forming and sculpting clay by hand is equally exciting. For Love of Mud offers a selection of pottery and clay classes for adults and children.
If you are interested in learning to use the potter's wheel to make beautiful, functional pottery, or enhancing pottery skills you already possess, mixed level classes are designed to enable you to progress at your own pace. Handbuilding equipment and techniques are also provided for students interested in alternative methods of making pottery & sculpture.
Beginners are taught basic techniques in a straight-forward, step-by-step fashion. Skills are built upon as students progress through simple, and then more complex forms.
Advanced students are guided to develop a personal vocabulary of form, (which some refer to as style). References to classical pottery and even architecture advance each individual's understanding and personal interpretation of form. Advanced students have the opportunity to explore basic glaze chemistry and the effects of the wood kiln.
DeBorah Goletz is available for special workshops in pottery and tile making techniques.
