Frank Giorgini & Dr. Abbas Abuwan co-teaching the First Annual Udu Drum Workshop in 1989

Explore the concepts and techniques underlying the construction and decoration of Nigerian pottery.  Experience the actual forming of clay drums by traditional hand building methods.  African tribal design motifs and symbolism are discussed and utilized as surface decoration.  Each participant completes muliple UDU drums during this trans-cultural experience.  The final day culminates in an outdoor primitive type firing, potluck meal, and musical drum jam session around an open fire in the evening.  Each student should finish the workshop with multiple completed udu drums.
